Global launches ad-free Radio Plus subscription service

Global, the UK’s largest radio group, has launched ‘Radio Plus’, a new subscription service offering ad-free access to its music brands. The service is available through Global Player and can be accessed via Alexa smart speakers, Apple TV, and in-car applications.

Subscribers can choose from three tiers: Brand Plus, which provides ad-free access to a specific music brand family; LBC Catch Up Plus, for ad-free catch-up content from LBC and LBC News; and a full Radio Plus package that covers all Global UK music stations and LBC catch-up content. Prices range from £4.99 to £9.99 per month. Subscribers also receive additional benefits such as priority event access, exclusive newsletters, and merchandise discounts.

This move is part of a broader subscription strategy by Global that includes podcast subscriptions and YouTube memberships. While ad-free streaming is common in the US, Global’s model specifically targets the live radio experience. The company noted that its standard FM and DAB streams will remain free and ad-supported.
