Global logistics face volatility in air cargo and container shipping

Global logistics sectors are facing increased volatility in 2026. In the air cargo industry, CargoTech reports that geopolitical shifts and changing regulations are forcing carriers to seek greater agility through advanced data analytics and decision support tools. To address these challenges, CargoTech is expanding its suite of operations tools, including the launch of a new compliance and sanctions tool within the Rotate tech stack.

Simultaneously, the maritime sector is experiencing significant disruptions. According to Sea-Intelligence, global container shipping schedule reliability dropped to 49.9% in August 2026, marking its lowest level since September 2022. This decline is attributed largely to congestion at Asian ports. Average vessel delays have also risen to 6.81 days, the highest level since March 2022. Among major carriers, Maersk maintained a reliability rate of 67.3%, while PIL saw the largest monthly decline of 10.1 percentage points.
