Global M&A value hits $1.7 trillion in H1 2026 driven by megadeals
Global merger and acquisition (M&A) activity saw significant growth in the first half of 2026, driven largely by high-value megadeals. Total global deal value reached $1.7 trillion, a 47% increase year-on-year, with megadeals worth at least $1 billion rising 59% to $1.4 trillion.
In the cryptocurrency sector, disclosed M&A value hit a record $9.66 billion, up 223% from the second half of 2025. However, the number of deals fell 25% to 87. This growth was heavily concentrated, with the four largest transactions accounting for 76% of the total crypto M&A value. One notable transaction was Bullish's agreement to acquire Equiniti for $4.2 billion.
Supply chain resilience emerged as a major driver, with $221 billion in transactions focused on localization and operational agility. The largest single deal reported was Unilever's $44.8 billion merger with McCormick. North America led global activity, accounting for $1.1 trillion in deal value.
