Porsche announces 'Sportwagenschmiede 35' strategy to boost profitability

Porsche has unveiled a new long-term strategic plan titled ‘Sportwagenschmiede 35’ aimed at restoring profitability and efficiency through 2035. Under the leadership of CEO Michael Leiters, the company is shifting its focus from volume to value, prioritizing high-margin, exclusive models over mass production.

Key financial and operational targets include reducing the annual break-even point to fewer than 200,000 units and achieving an operating profit margin of 10 to 15 percent in the medium term. To achieve this, Porsche plans significant cost reductions, including lowering development costs by up to 20 percent, reducing manufacturing personnel costs by up to 30 percent, and cutting management positions by 40 percent. A ‘Future Package’ agreement with employee representatives includes the reduction of 9,000 jobs.

The product roadmap features a mix of internal combustion, plug-in hybrid, and electric powertrains. Notable upcoming releases include all-electric 718 Boxster and Cayman models in 2028, alongside a new B-segment SUV featuring combustion and hybrid engines. Porsche is also developing a mid-engine supercar platform to sit above the 911 and exploring a new SUV positioned above the Cayenne. Additionally, the company aims to increase the average price of its top-end models by approximately 20 percent and expand its ‘Sonderwunsch’ personalization program sixfold.
