Global maritime trade routes face rising geopolitical risks

Global maritime trade routes face increasing instability due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and East Asia. In the Middle East, the Houthi rebels in Yemen have made advances near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, threatening a critical passage for goods traveling between Asia and Europe via the Red Sea and Suez Canal.

Additionally, the Strait of Hormuz remains a high-risk area following previous escalations involving Iran. Beyond the Middle East, the Taiwan Strait represents another significant vulnerability, as more than one-fifth of global maritime trade passes through the region. Analysts note that China's long-term objectives regarding Taiwan continue to pose a potential risk to these vital economic arteries.
