Global markets react to Iran conflict and rising bond yields

Global financial markets are experiencing significant volatility driven by the ongoing conflict involving Iran and rising inflation concerns. The blockade of oil deliveries in the Persian Gulf has pushed oil prices higher, fueling inflationary pressures and placing central banks, including the European Central Bank, under pressure to consider interest rate hikes.

Bond markets have seen record-high yields. In the United States, 30-year Treasury yields exceeded five percent, a level not seen in 25 years, while national debt has surpassed 40 trillion dollars. In Germany, 10-year Bund yields reached 3.25 percent, the highest in 15 years. DWS noted that long-term US bond yields have returned to levels reminiscent of the period before the global financial crisis.

In contrast to the turbulence in bond markets, European equities have shown resilience. The STOXX 600 index approached record highs, benefiting from diversification in finance, industry, and healthcare sectors. During the week of August 12, European stocks saw inflows of 2.44 billion dollars, and the Euro reached a three-month high of 1.17 dollars against the US dollar.
