Global markets see shifts in Athens stocks and gold prices

The Athens Stock Exchange General Index closed up 0.08% at 2,709.91 points, despite volatility throughout the session. While the index reached a daily high of 2,725 points driven by the banking sector—led by a 2.67% gain in Eurobank—sellers regained control toward the end of the day, erasing most gains before the close.

In the commodities market, gold prices rose 0.4% to $4,171.19 per ounce as US inflation data fueled expectations that the Federal Reserve may pause interest rate hikes in October. However, high US Treasury yields and a strengthening US dollar provided headwinds for precious metals. Silver rose 0.2%, platinum increased 0.1%, while palladium fell 2.2%.

Oil prices also saw an increase following news regarding China's suspension of petroleum product exports, raising global supply concerns and inflationary fears.
