Global markets react to U.S.-Iran military escalation

Escalating military conflict between the United States and Iran has triggered significant volatility across global financial markets. Following U.S. airstrikes targeting Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) sites—including air defense systems, radar, and maritime facilities—crude oil prices have surged, with Brent crude exceeding $95 per barrel.

This geopolitical instability has fueled concerns regarding energy supply disruptions and renewed inflationary pressures. Consequently, global bond yields have risen, with the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield reaching an intraday high of approximately 4.81 percent.

Stock markets worldwide have reacted negatively to the heightened risk. Asian markets saw sharp declines, and Indian benchmark indices faced heavy selling pressure. In Turkey, the BIST 100 index closed down 1.25 percent. Conversely, while gold prices hit a three-week low due to various market factors, some domestic markets, such as Iran, saw gold and currency prices rise due to local political uncertainty and a strengthening dollar.
