Global Meta outage disrupts Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp
On Friday afternoon a massive technical failure knocked out Meta's core services, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Threads and WhatsApp. Users worldwide reported being unable to log in, load pages or send messages, with the problem spreading across Europe, North America and Asia. Monitoring sites such as Downdetector were overwhelmed by the surge of reports, and some even experienced partial outages themselves. Meta has not released an official statement, and the cause remains unclear, though early speculation points to DNS configuration errors or internal infrastructure issues. The disruption also coincided with reports of instability on the unrelated Discord platform.
The outage affected billions of users, halting personal communications, business interactions and media consumption on the affected platforms.
