Global mining sectors see major investments in critical minerals and gold
The United States is integrating critical minerals into its national security infrastructure through significant public and private investment. The White House has announced over $2 billion for mining-related projects and $180 million for specialized training. A key component is Project Vault, a $12 billion strategic reserve initiative utilizing a $10 billion loan from the Export-Import Bank and $2 billion in private capital to secure essential raw materials against supply disruptions.
In Mexico, the Cámara Minera de México (Camimex) announced a $3.4 billion investment for eight gold mining projects slated for production between 2025 and 2026, driven by rising international gold prices. However, progress faces regulatory hurdles, with Camimex reporting significant delays in environmental and water permits. While projects like Torex Gold’s Media Luna are operational, others, such as Discovery Silver’s Cordero project, remain in construction phases awaiting environmental impact assessments.
