Global natural disasters drive rise in insured losses

Aon’s Weekly Catastrophe Report dated September 18, 2026, highlights a rise in insured losses due to global natural disasters. Severe weather events, including floods and intense storms, have impacted regions spanning from the United States to Europe and Asia.

In the United States, independent flash flooding occurred between September 10 and 17, affecting the Ohio River Valley, Connecticut, the New York metropolitan area, Arizona, and New Mexico. These events, driven by thunderstorms and seasonal monsoon activity, resulted in three fatalities in New Mexico and tens of millions of dollars in economic losses.

Globally, the report notes fatalities from convective storms in Brazil (four deaths) and flooding in Vietnam (three deaths) and Spain (one death). While economic losses in Spain are estimated in the millions, specific financial impact figures for Mexico, Panama, and Vietnam have not yet been determined.
