Global outage disables Facebook and Instagram platforms
On Friday, 12 June 2026, Meta’s social‑media services Facebook and Instagram suffered a widespread outage. Users in Romania, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Philippines, Bulgaria, Poland and the United Arab Emirates reported being unable to access the sites, log in or load pages, with many seeing error messages. The disruption also affected Facebook Messenger and was noted by monitoring services such as Down Detector, which recorded thousands of reports within minutes.
Meta has not provided an explanation for the incident or an estimated time for full restoration. This outage follows a shorter disruption of Facebook in March 2026, which similarly generated tens of thousands of user reports. The platform’s status pages initially indicated no known issues, highlighting a lag between user experience and official communications.
