Global outage disables Facebook, Instagram and Discord services

On Friday afternoon users worldwide reported a massive outage affecting several major internet services. Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Discord all experienced disruptions, with some users seeing only the blue Facebook logo or messages on Instagram stuck at “sending.”

The problems were first highlighted on Downdetector, where reports quickly rose from a few dozen to several thousand. No official statement from Meta or other involved companies has been released, and the cause of the outage remains unknown. The incident was noted in the United Kingdom, Canada, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, among many other regions.
