Global outage hits WhatsApp, Messenger and Discord

At about 15:40 GMT on 12 June, users across Europe, North America and North Africa reported that WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Discord were unable to send messages or establish connections. The three services, two owned by Meta and one independent, began returning errors within minutes, prompting widespread reports on social media platforms such as X.

Meta and Discord have not provided an explanation for the disruption, and the outage also coincided with a temporary failure of Downdetector’s own monitoring service. Users were advised not to change passwords, reinstall apps, or restart devices, as the issue appears to stem from the providers’ infrastructure rather than individual devices or networks.
