Global PC Shipments Fall 4% in Q2 2026 Amid Memory Shortage
Global personal‑computer shipments slipped 4% year‑on‑year in the second quarter of 2026, falling to about 65 million units. The decline ends a growth streak that began in Q1 2025 and marks the first YoY drop since that period.
The contraction is attributed to a severe "memory crunch" as DRAM and NAND flash prices surged — DRAM rose roughly 110% in Q1 2026 and continued climbing into Q2, while NAND jumped about 126% in Q1 and also rose further. The price shock stems largely from heightened demand by AI data‑center workloads, squeezing supply for PCs and smartphones.
OEMs responded variably. Lenovo retained a 25.6% market share with shipments of 16.6 million units, down 2% YoY. HP posted the steepest decline, an 8% drop in shipments. Dell’s shipments fell 6% YoY, while Apple and ASUS posted gains of 13% and 4% respectively, helped by new product launches and a focus on premium configurations.
