Global progress in human welfare faces stagnation

After 75 years of unprecedented improvements in human welfare, including significant reductions in extreme poverty and increases in global schooling and electricity access, progress has largely stalled over the last decade.

Factors contributing to this slowdown include cuts in international aid and rising inflation driven by conflict in the Middle East. Additionally, the World Meteorological Organization has warned of increased drought risks in southern Africa due to El Niño, which threatens to exacerbate hunger in regions like Madagascar.

Experts suggest that organizations such as the World Bank and NORAD must refocus on the most effective methods for aiding the poor to reverse this trend.
