Global research funding increases for Alzheimer's disease studies

Significant research funding has been allocated to advance Alzheimer's disease prevention and care through diverse scientific approaches in Germany and the United States.

In Germany, the Deutsche Alzheimer Gesellschaft and the Dierichs Foundation are awarding 237,000 euros to two distinct projects. One project, titled ‘Generationenübergreifender Naturraum Demenz (GeNaDe)’, focuses on whether intergenerational outdoor activities like gardening can improve the well-being and social participation of people with dementia. A second project, receiving 188,000 euros, investigates the relationship between blood lipid changes and genetic Alzheimer's disease at the DZNE Munich.

In the United States, the ARPA-H agency, under the Department of Health and Human Services, is investing up to 41 million dollars over four years into a multi-institutional initiative. Led by Mass General Brigham, the ‘Platform Trial for Biomarker-Guided Alzheimer's Disease Prevention’ aims to test combinations of existing FDA-approved drugs and natural products to identify new preventive therapeutic pathways. The study design involves testing five to ten therapy regimens simultaneously across multiple clinical sites.
