Global scam farms utilize AI and psychological tactics to drive industrial-scale fraud

Global financial fraud has evolved into a highly organized, industrial-scale industry driven by transnational scam farms. These syndicates, often concentrated in Southeast Asian nations such as Cambodia and Myanmar, operate like illicit corporations with specialized teams. Many workers within these compounds are victims of human trafficking, forced into labor under threat of violence.

Scammers utilize advanced psychological tactics and emerging technologies, including AI, to increase the scalability and persuasiveness of their schemes. Common methods include “pig-butchering” scams, where criminals spend months building trust and fabricating investment profits before stealing the victim's principal, and romance scams, which weaponize emotional connections through long-term grooming and “love bombing.”

The scale of the issue is significant; the United States Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) recently identified approximately $12.7 billion in suspicious financial activity linked to digital asset investment scams over a two-year period.
