Global seismic activity and natural disasters impact travel and scientific perception

Scientific experts have clarified that there is no evidence of a specific “earthquake season,” despite public concern in Mexico following recent seismic activity in countries such as Colombia, Venezuela, Japan, and Spain. Sismologists explain that earthquakes result from the release of energy accumulated by tectonic plate movements and that recent clusters of activity are temporal coincidences rather than a seasonal pattern. The perception of increased frequency is often attributed to the real-time speed of information shared via social media and the fact that many affected regions lie within the Ring of Fire.

Simultaneously, a series of natural disasters including earthquakes, fires, and floods across Nepal, Colombia, Granada, Peru, Venezuela, and Spain has impacted the travel sector. These events have led to airport closures, flight cancellations, and evacuations. The Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies (CEAV) has emphasized the role of travel agencies in providing support, information, and assistance to travelers affected by these disruptions, advising clients to follow local authority instructions and maintain contact with their agencies.
