Global South leaders address infrastructure and international law reform

Sergio Abreu, Secretary General of the Latin American Integration Association (Aladi), has warned that Latin American infrastructure corridors, specifically the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway, risk losing competitiveness due to bureaucracy and outdated strategic thinking. Speaking at a seminar in Montevideo, Abreu emphasized that the region must prioritize reducing logistics costs and transit times over mere production volume to remain competitive in the 21st century.

Separately, at the 18th BRICS summit in India, Chinese President Xi Jinping called on Global South nations to demand the equitable application of international law without double standards. Xi advocated for the defense of sovereign equality and non-interference in internal affairs, urging BRICS members to take a proactive role in stabilizing the international order and reforming the World Trade Organization and the global financial architecture to increase the representation of developing nations.
