ISO 45010 standard launched for menstrual and menopause health
A new international standard, ISO 45010, has been released to address menstrual and menopause health in the workplace. Developed through collaboration between the Swedish Institute for Standards (SIS), LO Sverige, and the healthtech company Estercare, the standard aims to promote gender equality and improve organizational productivity.
Sarah Sim, standardization director at SIS, notes that while many employers wish to support employees regarding these issues, they often lack clear guidance. The standard provides a framework for addressing needs through physical adjustments—such as improved ventilation, breathable work clothing, and adequate break opportunities—as well as flexible working arrangements.
Implementing these guidelines is expected to help reduce sick leave and increase competitiveness. Experts suggest that creating a better working environment for these specific needs ultimately benefits all employees and the organization as a whole.
