Global startup funding trends show African growth and Indian weekly decline

African startups raised approximately $1.36 billion in the first half of 2026. Fintech and logistics/transport sectors dominated the landscape, accounting for 76% of the total funding. Egypt led the continent in total funding with $327 million, while Nigeria secured the highest amount in equity, raising $214 million. A single company, the EV-mobility player Spiro, accounted for 24% of all continental funding through a $327 million raise.

In India, startup funding saw a weekly decline of 16% between August 31 and September 4, 2026. During this period, 22 startups raised a total of $176.5 million. Healthtech and cleantech were the primary drivers, capturing nearly 68% of the weekly total. Notable deals included a $70 million round for Ultrahuman in the healthtech sector and a $35 million Series A for Yuma Energy in cleantech.
