Global stock markets face widespread declines amid regional sell-offs
Stock markets across the Asia-Pacific region experienced significant declines driven by a global wave of sell-offs. South Korea's KOSPI index saw the most substantial drop, falling 7.03% to 5,586.19 points. Japan's Nikkei 225 also experienced a sharp decrease of 4.45%, closing at 64,728.00 points. Sell-offs were also observed in China and Hong Kong, with the Hang Seng index dropping 1.46% and the FTSE China 50 losing 1.55%.
In Southeast Asia, Indonesia's IDX Composite fell 2.10%, while Thailand's SET index declined 0.75%. Malaysia and Australia saw more limited decreases. In contrast to the regional trend, India's Nifty 50 index rose by 1.23% to 22,901.25 points.
European markets concluded Tuesday trading with slight decreases. The Stoxx Europe 600 index fell 0.07% after an earlier midday gain. While falling oil prices provided some relief regarding inflationary pressures, geopolitical risks—including attacks near the Strait of Hormuz and Riyadh—limited investor appetite for risk. Brent crude futures declined 0.87% to $105.72 per barrel.
