Global supply chain stress retreats to pre-pandemic levels

The global supply chain has transitioned from the high-stress levels seen in 2022 to a more stable environment in 2023. The Global Supply Chain Stress Index has retreated to pre-pandemic levels, characterized by improved labor availability and a significant decrease in transportation costs. The collapse of freight rates has benefited businesses by making products more accessible, though it has caused losses for major shipping lines on previously profitable routes.

Manufacturing dynamics are also shifting due to rising labor costs in China. Many companies are relocating operations to Southeast Asia and India to take advantage of lower wages. This shift is contributing to India’s economic growth, with projections suggesting it could become the world’s third-largest economy by 2029.
