Global Tech Component Price Surge Hits Consoles and Retailers

Valve engineer Yazan Aldehayyat told Bloomberg that worldwide prices for electronic components such as RAM and storage are continuing to rise, pushing production costs for the Steam Machine and Steam Deck higher and likely prompting further price hikes for the devices. He warned that the same cost pressures are affecting other console makers, with Microsoft announcing a price increase for the Xbox Series X/S effective 1 August, Sony having raised PS5 prices, and Nintendo confirming a price rise for the Switch 2.

Amid the higher component costs, retailers are reacting with promotional campaigns. In Portugal, PCComponentes – joined by Globaldata – is offering discounts on a wide range of technology items, from graphics cards and complete PCs to fans, air‑conditioning units and other summer appliances. The promotions, aimed at consumers facing rising living expenses, run through the end of July.
