Global temperature reaches 1.37 °C above pre‑industrial levels, study warns of 1.5 °C breach by 2030

A new scientific assessment compiled by 73 researchers from more than 50 institutions in 16 countries finds that human activity has lifted global warming to about 1.37 °C above pre‑industrial levels by 2025. The analysis shows the warming rate is roughly 0.27 °C per decade, accelerating the approach to the critical 1.5 °C threshold set by the Paris Agreement.

If the current pace continues, the planet could cross the 1.5 °C limit as early as 2030, bringing more frequent and intense heatwaves, marine heat events and severe impacts on ecosystems, economies and populations worldwide. The report also notes record global greenhouse‑gas emissions in 2024 and highlights deforestation in the Amazon as a contributing factor. Scientists stress the urgent need for rapid carbon‑reduction measures to avoid even greater climate disruption.
