Global tensions rise amid Yemen escalation and drone strikes
Conflict intensity has escalated across multiple fronts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. In Yemen, government forces reported conducting 181 attacks against the Iranian-backed Houthi militia within a 24-hour period, targeting military bases, weapon depots, and vehicles. The Houthi militia has also launched ballistic missiles at government positions near the Bab al-Mandab strait and targeted military vessels in the Red Sea, including a Saudi Arabian landing ship near Mocha.
In the Russia-Ukraine war, Moscow has threatened the United Kingdom with consequences following reports that Ukraine is using British-manufactured drones to strike targets within Russian territory. Simultaneously, Ukraine launched a massive drone attack against the Moscow region, with officials reporting approximately 600 drones deployed. The strikes caused damage to civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings, a school, and warehouses, and resulted in fatalities and injuries in the Moscow and Rostov regions.
In Israel, US Special Envoy Jared Kushner met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the Gaza Strip. Kushner emphasized that reconstruction in Gaza will not proceed without the demilitarization of the territory, noting that financial investment requires assurance that the area will not be re-seized by terrorists. The meeting resulted in the formation of two working groups focused on Gaza's demilitarization and public health issues.
