Global transport sectors face infrastructure and efficiency challenges
In Venezuela, the national transport network faces a critical period due to deteriorating road surfaces and a shortage of functional service stations. These logistical challenges in the food distribution and cargo systems are increasing operational costs for heavy transport drivers, which directly impacts consumer prices in markets and supermarkets.
Transport sectors have proposed technical solutions to rehabilitate strategic corridors through public-private partnerships. These proposals include bridge repairs, modern signaling, and using tolls exclusively for road maintenance. However, drivers emphasize that any new fees must be accompanied by improved security to combat rising rates of robbery and extortion on highways.
In Europe, road freight remains a central economic pillar, representing up to 5% of the EU GDP. Over 36 million commercial vehicles operate across the Union, transporting more than 13.1 billion tons of goods annually. While the volume of transported goods has grown at an average annual rate of less than 1%, the industry faces increasing demands for digitalization, efficiency, and sustainability.
