Global travel trends for 2025 shift toward Nordic regions and regulation
Travel trends for 2025 are being reshaped by climate change, tourist pressure, and new regulatory measures. A shift toward ‘coolth tourism’ is driving travelers away from the Mediterranean heat toward Nordic destinations, including Norway, Finland, Iceland, and the Baltic states.
Overtourism remains a critical issue in Europe. Coastal areas and popular islands in Spain and Greece, along with Croatia and Venice, have faced extreme saturation. In response, several cities are implementing strict regulations: Venice is experimenting with access fees for day visitors, Barcelona plans to eliminate short-term tourist rentals by 2028, and Florence is limiting new short-term rentals in its historic center.
To avoid high costs, crowds, and extreme heat, experts suggest traveling during the shoulder season. Destinations like Venice, which experience heavy congestion and humidity in July and August, are better visited in April, May, or September to ensure a more comfortable and affordable experience.
