Global travel trends highlight female safety concerns and new EU aviation rules

Recent trends indicate a significant rise in female solo travel, driven by leisure, studies, and professional needs. In the Dominican Republic, women represent 48.4% of non-resident foreign tourists, according to the Central Bank. However, safety and scams remain primary concerns; a survey by Mozio of 1,006 international travelers found that 34% of women worry about personal security and 44% are alert to potential scams upon arrival.

In Europe, the EU Council has approved updates to Regulation 261/2004 to strengthen passenger rights. Expected to be operational by early 2027, the new rules aim to protect travelers against flight delays, cancellations, and issues regarding cabin baggage. Notably, airlines will be required to display ticket prices that include cabin luggage first, allowing passengers to opt for lower tiers later in the booking process.

These developments highlight a dual focus in the travel industry: addressing the specific security and logistical needs of a growing female demographic and implementing stricter consumer protections within the European aviation sector.
