Global travel trends show resurgence of revenge tourism
The global travel industry is experiencing a resurgence of ‘revenge tourism,’ as travelers seek to make up for delayed or cancelled trips caused by recent global uncertainties. While conflicts in the Middle East have disrupted flight routes through major hubs like Dubai and Doha, tour operators report that travelers are increasingly determined to book larger, more expensive trips once stability returns.
Despite the trend of increased spending, consumer attitudes vary significantly by region. A 2022 Morning Consult survey highlighted a notable shift in Japan, where approximately 35% of respondents indicated they did not intend to travel for leisure again—the highest rate in the survey. In comparison, South Korea reported a 15% rate of similar sentiment.
