Global travel trends show rise in luxury and micro-trips
Recent industry research highlights significant shifts in global travel habits, focusing on luxury experiences and changing consumer preferences for the coming years.
A survey of over 3,100 travel advisors across 50 countries indicates a rise in ultra-luxury travel, which has grown by 47 percent. High-end travelers are increasingly prioritizing meaningful experiences, privacy, and quality. While Japan is expected to lead the luxury market, Europe is projected to dominate by 2027, with top destinations including Italy, France, Greece, and Spain. Croatia has also been identified as one of the top ten most popular luxury destinations globally.
Simultaneously, research from Hilton involving nearly 15,000 travelers points to a ‘great rebalance’ in tourism. Key trends include ‘micro-traveling’—shorter, more frequent trips that allow for spontaneity—and ‘growth getaways’ focused on learning new skills. There is also a growing preference for less rigid planning and a strong emphasis on nature-based wellness, with 79 percent of respondents citing fresh air and outdoor settings as essential for relaxation.
