Global travel trends show rising interest in non-European destinations

Global and regional travel trends show a significant shift toward non-European destinations and a projected recovery for the Middle East and North Africa. Data from Kiwi.com indicates that Hungarian travelers are increasingly choosing destinations outside of Europe this autumn, with bookings to non-European locations rising 1.5 times compared to last year.

Leading non-European destinations for Hungarian travelers include Turkey, Egypt, and the United States. Other notable increases in popularity include Morocco, Argentina, Georgia, and China. Despite the shift in destinations, the average spending per traveler has remained relatively stable, increasing by only 1.7 percent.

On a broader scale, the ATM Travel Trends Report 2026 suggests that while geopolitical tensions have impacted travel in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, a strong recovery is expected. International travel in the MENASA region is projected to rebound by 17 percent in 2027. Furthermore, international visitor spending in the Middle East is forecasted to grow by 57 percent between 2025 and 2030, reaching approximately 116 billion dollars.
