Global trends show shifts in nonprofit donation patterns
Recent data highlights evolving trends in charitable giving. In Brazil, the 2024 Brazil Donation Survey by the Institute for Social Investment Development (IDIS) indicates that while 43% of Brazilians have donated money to civil society organizations and 50% have contributed during emergencies, monthly recurring donations are declining. Brazil currently ranks 48th globally in donations proportional to income. To combat this, the 'Dia de Doar' (Day of Giving) initiative aims to transform sporadic solidarity into a permanent habit.
On a global scale, GoFundMe’s 'The Kindness Gap' report, analyzing 34 million donations totaling $2.7 billion between July 2025 and June 2026, shows a different trend. The platform reported a 62% increase in fundraising campaigns created for nonprofit organizations compared to the previous year. While donor participation rates vary, the number of donors for nonprofits on the platform grew by nearly 10%, and the number of new organizers increased by 30%.
