Global vaccination trends show progress in Argentina and declines in the US

In Argentina, the XVI Fundación Vacunar Symposium highlighted progress in immunization against dengue, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The country has seen an increase in influenza vaccinations, with over 6 million doses administered by late July. Regarding dengue, the TAK-003 tetravalent vaccine has been introduced as a tool following an epidemic that caused over 556,000 cases and 404 deaths in the 2023-2024 period. Maternal vaccination for RSV has also been implemented nationwide.

Conversely, the United States is facing a decline in childhood immunization rates. Federal data shows that kindergarten vaccination rates have dropped, while non-medical exemptions have reached a historic high of 4.2%, affecting approximately 155,000 children. Experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics attribute this trend to confusion caused by federal health officials and shifting vaccination guidelines. There are concerns regarding the impact of political figures on public health recommendations and the potential for increased disease circulation due to these rising exemption rates.
