Global warming acceleration reaches new levels
Scientific data confirms a significant acceleration in global warming. According to climate physicist Antonello Pasini of the National Research Council (CNR), the rate of temperature increase has nearly doubled, rising from approximately 0.2 degrees Celsius per decade prior to 2013-2014 to nearly 0.4 degrees Celsius per decade.
This acceleration is not accompanied by a proportional jump in CO2 levels, suggesting that other anthropogenic factors and climate feedback loops, such as changes in the planet's reflectivity, may be contributing to the surge. The World Meteorological Organization reports that since the pre-industrial era, atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide have increased by nearly 150%, methane by 262%, and nitrous oxide by 123%.
The consequences include extreme weather events, droughts, floods, and wildfires. In regions like the Mediterranean and Europe, the expansion of African anticyclones is driving intense heatwaves. To mitigate the most severe impacts, the global community aims to limit temperature increases to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The European Union has set a target to reduce its net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.
