Global wildfires and natural disasters intensify in 2026
The year 2026 is experiencing a surge in global natural disasters, characterized by extreme wildfires, rising hunger, and a significant Ebola outbreak in Africa.
In the United States, wildfire activity has reached a decade-high pace. As of August 18, more than 7.2 million acres have burned, nearly doubling the area burned during the same period last year. In Oregon, forestry officials report heavy smoke and extensive landscape devastation.
Globally, wildfires have caused significant destruction. In Europe, fires have burned hundreds of thousands of acres across France and Spain, destroyed homes in England, and resulted in fatalities in Spain and Greece. Canada is also facing massive forest fires, while Belgium is battling its largest recorded wildfire.
