Global wine markets show varying export trends in Argentina and New Zealand

Wine production regions in Argentina and New Zealand are reporting divergent trends in their export markets. In Argentina's Río Negro province, viticulture has achieved the highest export price per liter in the country for 2025, reaching US$12.47. This value is driven by high-quality varieties such as Pinot Noir. While production volume remains relatively small, with approximately 4 million liters produced and 10% destined for export, the region leverages its unique Patagonian terroir to target markets in England, the United States, Brazil, and increasingly Japan.

In contrast, New Zealand's wine sector saw a 6.0% increase in export volume for the twelve months ending June 2026, reaching 306.2 million liters. However, this growth in volume occurred alongside a 15% reduction in the 2026 harvest, which totaled approximately 440,000 tons. New Zealand Winegrowers noted that while export volumes rose, the total value of exports—2.108 billion New Zealand dollars—remained relatively stable compared to the previous year, indicating that growth was driven by quantity rather than price increases. The reduction in production is intended to align supply more closely with current market demand.
