Global youth policy study highlights regional disparities and employment challenges

A comparative analysis of youth policies across 32 countries has been released, examining legal frameworks and strategies for education, employment, and wellbeing. The study utilizes a new Youth Governance Index (YGI) to rank nations based on the presence of youth-related policies, highlighting significant global disparities in how different regions prioritize and implement support for young populations.

In Ghana, National Youth Week coincides with significant labor market challenges. Data from the Ghana Statistical Service indicates that youth unemployment averaged 21.9% during the first three quarters of 2025, notably higher than the national average of 12.8%. Approximately 19.5% of the youth population is currently not in employment, education, or training. Regional data shows youth unemployment at 31.9% in Greater Accra and 27.2% in Ashanti. Experts suggest that addressing these issues requires understanding technological convergence and disruptive innovation to adapt to changing economic value creation.
