GlobalFoundries unveils FDX Fusion platform for Edge AI

GlobalFoundries has introduced its new FDX Fusion FD-SOI platform, designed to target Edge and Physical AI applications in the automotive, industrial, and consumer sectors. The technology aims to enable intensive AI processing directly on end devices with high energy efficiency.

The first generation of FDX Fusion is expected to provide digital performance equivalent to the 7-nm class, offering more than double the logic density compared to the previous FDX generation. The platform also features high-frequency RF performance of up to 0.5 THz ft/fmax and integrates advanced substrate engineering, transistor innovations, and in-memory computing capabilities.

Developed in collaboration with research institute CEA-Leti and substrate specialist Soitec, the platform utilizes a specialized 7-nm silicon layer intended to increase electron mobility by approximately 25%. Mass production of the FDX Fusion platform is scheduled to begin at the company’s facility in Dresden by 2028.
