Globant proposes 172 layoffs in Spain amid AI impact

The technology services company Globant has announced a collective redundancy procedure (ERE) in Spain that would affect 172 employees, representing approximately 15.3% of its local workforce. The layoffs are expected to impact centers in Barcelona, Logroño, Madrid, and Málaga.

Globant has attributed the decision to organizational and productive causes, citing an international model shift and the impact of artificial intelligence. The company stated the cuts target positions currently without project assignments and aim to address a mismatch between available talent and future demand.

The workers' union CCOO has rejected the proposal, questioning the validity of the technical reports and explanatory documents provided by the company. The union is demanding transparency, full access to documentation, and the exploration of real alternatives to minimize the impact on employment. CCOO has indicated it may pursue legal and union actions if the consultation process does not proceed in good faith.
