Globis releases report on culture transformation for Japanese companies

Globis has released a roundtable report focused on organizational culture transformation within Japanese companies, developed in collaboration with executives from Orix, JFE Steel, Sompo Japan Insurance, Mizuho Financial Group, and Ricoh.

The report addresses the limitations of applying Western transformation frameworks directly to Japanese firms, noting that such methods often lead to temporary results followed by a regression to old organizational behaviors. To achieve sustainable growth, the report suggests that companies must move beyond merely stating a purpose or values and instead focus on fostering a culture that drives actual behavioral changes among employees.

The findings categorize culture transformation into two approaches: “reinforcement” of existing strengths and values, and “cultivation” of new organizational cultures. The report emphasizes that for purpose and values to permeate an organization, consistent approaches must be applied across three distinct levels: top management, middle management, and individual members.
