Globo adjusts programming for 2026 election coverage
Globo has adjusted its programming schedule in August to accommodate mandatory electoral coverage for the 2026 presidential elections. Starting August 24, the broadcaster modified the airtimes for telenovelas, news programs, and other content.
These changes are driven by requirements from the Electoral Justice system, which mandates that radio and television stations reserve specific time slots for free electoral advertising. The first-round electoral period began on August 28 and is scheduled to run until October 1, totaling 35 days of mandatory broadcasts from Monday to Saturday.
In addition to schedule shifts, Globo conducted a series of interviews, known as 'sabatinas', with presidential candidates between August 24 and August 29. The broadcaster also implemented similar adjustments through its affiliate, RPC, in Paraná, affecting programs such as Globo Esporte and various news bulletins.
