Globoplay begins filming documentary on Brazilian TV rivalry

Globoplay has begun filming a documentary exploring the intense audience competition between Brazil’s major television networks during the 1990s and 2000s. The production focuses on the “Guerra dos Domingos” (Sunday War), a period defined by the rivalry between Faustão on Globo and Gugu Liberato on SBT.

The series aims to revisit iconic and controversial segments that shaped Brazilian television, such as SBT’s “Banheira do Gugu” and Globo’s “Sushi Erótico.” To reconstruct this era, the production is interviewing key figures, including model Solange Gomes, who will discuss her time participating in the “Banheira” segment.

Beyond individual hosts, the documentary will examine how this competition influenced the broader entertainment industry, including the music sector. It will highlight how major musical acts, such as Chitãozinho & Xororó and Zezé Di Camargo & Luciano, were central to the battle for viewership. The project also intends to cover rare moments of cooperation, such as a 2003 simultaneous commercial featuring both hosts.
