Globus Holding explores investment opportunities in Romania

German retail group Globus Holding is exploring potential investment opportunities in the Romanian market. Matthias Bruch, Managing Director of Globus Holding, recently traveled to Bucharest to hold discussions with Romanian government officials regarding the business environment and investment prospects.

Globus Holding, which operates hypermarkets and DIY stores (Globus Baumarkt), currently has a presence in Germany and the Czech Republic. For the 2024/2025 fiscal year, the group reported sales of 8.81 billion euros and employs approximately 34,000 people. While the group does not currently operate food or DIY stores in Romania, its interest suggests it could become a significant competitor to established players like Lidl and Kaufland.

Founded in 1828, the company has evolved from a single food store into a major retail group. Although no official announcement regarding a specific investment calendar or store openings has been made, the high-level meetings in Bucharest indicate that Romania is a key area of interest for the company's expansion strategy.
