Glofitamab and GemOx combination becomes available in Italy for DLBCL

A new therapeutic combination of the bispecific antibody glofitamab and GemOx chemotherapy is now available and reimbursed in Italy for patients with relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). This treatment follows the results of the international Phase 3 ‘Starglo’ study, which demonstrated significant improvements in overall survival and progression-free survival compared to the previous standard of care, R-GemOx.

Medical experts, including hematologists from the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori and Humanitas University, noted that this combination represents a new standard for patients ineligible for autologous transplants. The therapy offers a fixed duration, which allows for better clinical predictability and resource allocation. Clinical data indicates a median survival of 25 months and a 3-year survival rate of 47% for this treatment regimen.

Beyond clinical efficacy, the therapy is highlighted for its accessibility and potential to reduce long-term healthcare costs by preventing more aggressive, late-stage complications. The treatment is described as an ‘off-the-shelf’ option that can be administered immediately in existing treatment centers, minimizing patient destabilization.
