Disco music icon Gloria Gaynor is celebrating her birthday on September 7. Born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1943, the singer has maintained a career spanning over six decades.
Gaynor rose to prominence in the 1970s with her version of ‘Never Can Say Goodbye’. She achieved global stardom in 1978 with the release of ‘I Will Survive’, a song that became a universal anthem of resilience and independence. The track earned her a Grammy Award for Best Disco Recording in 1980 and was later inducted into the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress in 2016.
Beyond disco, Gaynor has explored various musical genres, including gospel. In 2019, she won a second Grammy Award for Best Gospel Album for her work ‘Testimony’.
