Gloria Steinem, feminist icon and journalist, dies at 92

Gloria Steinem, a pioneering journalist and a central figure of the second-wave feminist movement, has died at the age of 92. She passed away peacefully at her home in New York City, surrounded by loved ones.

Steinem's career was marked by significant activism and investigative journalism. In 1963, she gained national attention for her undercover exposé on the working conditions for women at the Playboy Club. She later co-founded Ms. magazine, which became a major platform for discussing reproductive rights, workplace equality, and domestic violence.

Throughout her life, Steinem advocated for various social causes, including the legalization of abortion, gender equality in the workplace, and political representation for women. Her influence extended through the founding of organizations such as the National Women’s Political Caucus and the Women’s Media Center. In 2013, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama.

Her legacy continues through her writing and the social changes she helped catalyze. A new memoir, 'An Unexpected Life', is scheduled for release in late September.
