Gloria Steinem, feminist icon and journalist, dies at 92
Gloria Steinem, a pioneering feminist icon, journalist, and activist, died peacefully at her home in New York City on Wednesday, September 2, at the age of 92.
A leading figure of second-wave feminism, Steinem co-founded several influential organizations and publications, including Ms. magazine, the National Women’s Political Caucus, the Ms. Foundation for Women, and the Women’s Media Center. Her lifelong advocacy focused on gender equality, reproductive rights, and workplace protections.
Her career included significant investigative work, such as her undercover reporting at the Playboy Club, which exposed sexual harassment and labor issues. Throughout her life, she remained a prominent voice for social justice and an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. She was a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded by President Barack Obama in 2013.
