Gloucestershire wins English Men’s County Championship
Gloucestershire has been crowned the 2026 English Men’s County Champions following a dramatic final day at Hollinwell Golf Club. The title was secured after Charlie McKinnes sank a 12-foot par putt on the 18th hole to earn a half-point in his match against Yorkshire’s Habib Khan.
Gloucestershire finished with 4.5 points from eight matches to secure the championship, marking their fourth title. The victory prevented Yorkshire from claiming a record 24th championship, as Yorkshire only needed to avoid defeat to win. Essex finished in third place, half a point behind Yorkshire, after defeating the reigning champions, Leicestershire & Rutland.
Nick Day was a key performer for Gloucestershire, remaining unbeaten with five points from six matches. McKinnes described the winning putt as redemption for a missed short putt earlier in the day.
